Hi! All in all, Sunday was a very exciting day; not only for surfers but the whole town,
or at least those people who live and/or spent their day close to the beach. Sunday
morning (around 7a.m.) was quite tranquil (at low tide with incoming sea) - in comparison
with what we saw in the afternoon - although waves got bigger overnight with sets of 5
feet till almost double overhead at Punta Roca (2-4 feet in between the sets) and 2-6 feet
at La Paz. It was a sunny morning, but sea surface was choppy while there was a weak,
partly side-, partly on-shore wind, which got stronger in the course of the day. At this
time were about 8 surfers out at Punta Roca and a handful at La Paz. With the incoming
sea, reaching it's highest tide around 3p.m., waves got somewhat bigger, so that La Paz
had sets with waves ranging between 5-8 feet (2-4 feet in between the sets) and Punta Roca
sets with double overhead and sometimes more... Sets consisted of 4-7 massive waves with
around 4-8 elapsing minutes in between. As by chance, a combination of hightide, which was
a kind of extreme high tide and lots of big, big sets, La Libertad's coastline (including
the restaurants and houses and the pier and crowds) got really hit around 3p.m. - even one
small guesthouse lost it's roof... - [Thomas]

Hi! Tranquil morning - around 6.30 a.m. - as waves were small at Punta Roca and La Paz
beach, ranging between 1-4 feet. Sea surface was choppy, no wind and at Punta Roca I
haven't seen any surfers out (3 surfers at La Paz beach). - [Thomas]

Hi! Cloudy and fresh morning (around 7 a.m.), because La Libertad had some rainfall over
night. Inspite that there was no wind, sea surface was really choppy. At Punta Roca were
about 8 surfers out, "fighting" the current... Waves ranged between 2-6 feet at
Punta Roca (La Paz 2-4 feet). - [Thomas]

Hi! Sunny morning (around 6.15 a.m.) with lots of fast 2-5 feet waves at La Paz and 3-7
feet waves at Punta Roca (at low tide). There was a permanent and relatively strong side
shore wind and sea surface was choppy (feat. current). At La Paz beach were about 2 people
out and at Punta Roca were about 10 surfers out... - [Thomas]

Hi! Nice morning (around 6.45 a.m.) at Punta Roca with waves ranging between 3-8 feet at
low tide and almost clean sea surface. There was no wind and about 10 surfers out. Last
night seemed to be the peak of the actual powerful swells, as some awesome waves were
bigger than the pier at La Paz beach... - [Thomas]

Hi! Waves were still big this morning (around 7.15 a.m.) at Punta Roca, ranging between
3-8 feet. Sea surface was almost clean and there was a weak side shore wind, too. This
morning was busier than yesterday, with about 12 surfers out. Very nice morning... - [Thomas]

Hi! Over night, the "sunday's" swell hold it's size and got even bigger. Around
7.00 a.m., sea surface was still choppy and there was a weak side shore wind, too. At La
Paz beach, waves were around 3-6 feet and Punta Roca was really impressive with waves
ranging between 3-10 feet. Although there was a real coming and going, I counted for a
maximum 7 people at Punta Roca. - [Thomas]

June 2003
Hi! Around 7.30 a.m. there was a strong side shore wind and sea surface was therefore
really choppy (outgoing sea). Waves were around 3-5 feet, but I haven't seen any surfer
out there. During the day the wind changed it's direction, so that there was a weaker
on-shore wind in the afternoon and evening. Sea surface didn't clear up - it remained very
choppy. After noon, a new swell with bigger waves came in, so that we had 3-7 feet at
Punta Roca and about 3-6 feet at La Paz. Late afternoon (incoming sea) I've seen 3
bodyboarders at La Paz, when I went to take the only picture for Sunday. As there were
some strong rainfalls in the mountains behind La Libertad, the rivers close to La Libertad
turned the ocean brown, as you can see on the photo. - [Thomas]

Hi! Sunny morning (around 7 a.m.) with plenty of 2-5 feet waves - most waves were about
2-3 feet. At Punta Roca were about 8 surfers out and La Paz 3 surfers. There was a weak
but permanent side shore wind and a choppy sea surface, too. It's weekend - have a nice
one! - [Thomas]

Hi! Fantastic morning with lots of 2-5 feet waves at Punta Roca (7:15 a.m.). Sea surface
was almost clean, no current and a noticeable, but very weak side-shore wind. At Punta
Roca were about 6 surfers out. The last picture is my favorite one for today and was taken
at the pier and shows a nice left wave from "Playa El Malecón". - [Thomas]

Hi! Punta Roca was quite fun this morning (around 6.30 a.m.), which means that there were
a lot of fast 2-5 feet waves, in sets of 3-5 waves and 1-5 minutes between each set (and
sometimes some hollow 5-6 "feeters"). As there was no wind and current - sea
surface was almost clean - and only 6 surfers out (at 7.10 a.m. 9 surfers), the conditions
were quite good for a surfing session. - [Thomas]

Hi! Cloudy morning with lots of 3-4 feet waves for only 3 surfers... No wind but choppy
sea surface and sometimes awesome lines of 6-7 feet made the day... - [Thomas]

Hello! Night was very rainy - I woke up one time during the night when there was a really
heavy rainfall. It drizzled until 7.30 a.m. and visibility was very bad. This misty
morning didn't attract any surfer to come out, because I haven't seen anybody at Punta
Roca and La Paz. Therefore sea surface was choppy but there were plenty of 3-5 feet waves
(Punta Roca), too. - [Thomas]

Hello! Punta Roca was fun this morning with lot's of pretty nice lines and only (+/-) 13
surfers out. Sea surface was more or less clean, very little side shore wind (partly
on-shore wind) and no current with waves ranging from 2-7 feet. La Paz was also a pretty
nice spot this morning with lots of 2-4 feet waves and only 3 surfers out. (Pictures are
from Punta Roca.) - [Thomas]

Sunday, 01 June 2003 - Children's day
Hello! Sunday was a fantastic surf day, although there were a lot of surfers out (+/- 20
in the morning and much more in the afternoon - both Punta Roca and La Paz)! At Punta
Roca, waves ranged from 3-7 feet with sets of 3-5 waves in a time frame of 5 minutes (more
or less). Sea surface was little choppy (choppier in the afternoon), no current and a
consistent, but weak on-shore wind. La Paz waves were smaller, but with waves ranging
between 3 and 5 feet no less interessant. Sun was really "agressive" till 2 p.m.
and made a rushgard absolutely necessary. - [Thomas]
